Use the Settings sub-menu [MarineTraffic Mobile App]

Tap on Menu->Settings to access the "Settings" sub-menu and the available options in it.

A list of all of the available options and the actions you can perform, together with useful information, follows:

 

Map Options

  • Auto-refresh: If enabled, the Live Map will be auto-refreshing. You can also manually refresh the Live Map provided that you have enabled the Bottom Toolbar option.
  • Vessel Names: Vessel Names will be displayed on the Live Map along with the subject vessel's icon.
  • Map type: Choose your preferred Map Type from the available options: Map - Hybrid - Aerial (Google Maps variations), OSM (OpenStreet map), Paint, Nautical. Note that in order to be able to use the Nautical Maps, you have to be signed-in to your MarineTraffic account. Only Pro plan subscribers and above are able to use this feature.
  • Map Resolution: Select the preferred Map Resolution. The application will auto-detect the most appropriate resolution depending on your mobile device. However, you may set the resolution manually (for example, in case your bandwidth is limited for any reason).
  • Map Scale: Choose whether you want the Map Scale to be displayed on the Live Map or not.

  • Zoom Control: Choose whether you want the Zoom Control buttons to be displayed on the Live Map or not.
  • Bottom Toolbar & refresh button: Activate this option to display the Bottom Toolbar on the Live Map.

The available options (from left to right) in the Bottom Toolbar enable you to perform the following actions:

  • Directly bring out the "Settings" sub-menu
  • Manually refresh the Live Map at any time
  • Directly activate the "My Fleet" Map View
  • Directly activate the "Ships" Map View
  • Directly activate the "Ports" Map View
  • Directly activate the "Winds" Map View

 

Vessel Options

Use the sliders next to each Vessel Type to select whether you want vessels of the subject type to be displayed on the Live Map or not. 

Also, choose which vessels will be displayed depending on their status (Underway or Anchored/Moored) using the relevant sliders.

Move down to find more Vessel Options

  • Style: Select your preferred style of the displayed vessel icons.
  • Small icons when zoomed-out: Icons will adjust to your zoom level. When zoomed-out icons will become smaller.
  • Vessel Names: Vessel Names will be displayed on the Live Map along with the subject vessel's icon.
  • Icon size according to vessel's length: Vessel icons will be shown according to the actual vessel's length. Small (up to 80m), Normal (80-150m), Large (more than 150m).
  • Projected Course: According to the latest data, a projected course line will be displayed for each vessel icon. This line estimates the projected course of the subject vessel.
  • Show Wake: If enabled, wakes will be shown. Depending on the subject vessel's speed, the wake will be adjusted accordingly.

Upon making your selections, tap on the "Show on Map" button to view your changes on the Live Map.

 

Ports Options

  • Ports
  • Marinas
  • Anchorages
  • Lights & AtoN

Use the sliders to define which icons are to be displayed when the "Ports" Map View is selected. Upon making your selections, tap on the "Show on Map" button to view your changes on the Live Map.

 

My Position

  • Auto-tracking: Activate this option to directly track your current position on the Live Map.
  • Record my Track with Route Planner: Enable the recording of your track using the Route Planner in-app tool.
  • Get position from: Tap on the "device" option to be getting information on your position directly from your mobile device. Tap on the "map center" option to define your location according to the Live Map's current central position (the point that the cross-hair indicates on the Live Map).
  • Max Distance of Ships Near Me: Define the maximum range of vessels (ports and lights as well) shown near your position. These assets will comprise the "Near Me" List. Accepted values are 1-100 NM.
  • Show Area Near Me: Enable this option to view the selected area of yours on the Live Map. The size of the area depends on your choice in the "Max Distance of Ships Near Me" option.

 

Cruise Mode

 

Cruise Mode - Center Lock: Activate this option to enable Cruise Mode. This way you can define your actual position as the focal point of the Live Map.

Record My track with Route Planner: Enable the recording of your track using the Route Planner in-app tool.

Cruise Info: Information on cruise stats will be displayed here - tap on the "RESET" button to start the gathering of data from scratch.

Compass: Select the way you want the Compass to be displayed (full, minimal, none).

Nearby Vessels info: Select the kind of information you wish to be getting about the nearby vessels (the information that will be displayed next to the corresponding vessel icon). 

Place Vessels at estimated position: The app calculates the estimated location of the vessels according to the elapsed time from their last signal transmission. If the last transmission is more than 3-minutes old, no estimation is made.

Draw projected course: Enable this option to draw a projected course (a line) based on the latest AIS data. Use the slider to define the range of the projected course (in minutes). Notice that the projected courses will be applied to all the vessels on the Live Map (including yours). 

Speed units: Select your desired speed unit (knots, km/h, mph).

SOG extra info: Select the kind of additional information you wish to be viewing in the SOG frame which is displayed at the bottom left corner of the Live Map.

 

Weather

  • Type: Select the way that the wind icons will be displayed on the Live Map (Static, Animated, Meteo)
  • Forecast Slider: Bring out a slider on the Live Map to get up to 48-hour weather forecasts. Simply drag the slider to do so or use the respective arrows.

  • Legend: Select the kind of weather information you prefer to be displayed on the Live Map (Speed, Temperature). Note that Wind Speed is presented in knots (tap on any wind icon on the Live Map to view the Beaufort equivalent too) and Temperature in Celsius degrees. You can also bring out a legend on the Live Map to help you quickly identify the weather conditions on any selected area. 

Upon making your selections, tap on the "Show on Map" button to view your changes on the Live Map.

Tip: You can alternate between the Forecast Slider and the Legend on the Live Map by simply tapping on any of them.

 

Performance

The MarineTraffic Mobile App auto-detects the appropriate performance settings depending on your mobile device. However, you can alter these settings using the "Performance" set of options.

 

  • Speed vs Detail Slider: Define the amount of displayed icons on the Live Map. 
  • Map Resolution: Select the resolution level.
  • Icons: Select the size of the displayed icons.
  • Interface: Select the size of the Interface (menus, options, buttons etc)
  • Smooth Animations: Enable or disable Smooth Animations (e.g. when zooming in and out).

 

My Account

Use this option to Login to your MarineTraffic Account (or to Logout).

 

Notifications

  • Enable on this device: When this option is activated, you will be able to get Mobile Push Notifications on your mobile device.

  • Add alert when adding ship to My Fleet: This option will automatically enable vessel-based notifications when adding a new vessel to any of your fleets.
  • Notification center mode: Select whether you want to be getting your Notifications in a Multiple or Single response type.

 

My Fleets (options available only after signing-in)

Use the available options to manage your Fleets. Tap on the name of the Fleet you wish to manage and, then, tap:

  • Rename: Change the name of the selected Fleet
  • Delete: Delete the selected Fleet
  • Mark as default: Set the selected Fleet as your default one. (your default Fleet will be displayed when choosing the "My Fleet" Map View while new vessels will be added to it)

Tap on the "Done" button for the changes to take effect.
