Of course! However, in that case, you will also need:
A common RS-232 serial connection cable will do. This way, you will be able to connect the serial output (NMEA) of your AIS receiver to your computer (for example, we have successfully tested a 15-metre serial cable in order to be able to place a receiver of this kind very close to the VHF antenna while the PC was 2 floors lower).
Upon connection, your AIS receiver will have internet access via your PC and will be able to transferring AIS-data to our central database!
You will also need to download and install a software for processing and uploading data to our central database. We can provide you with a simple, windows-based service program (AIS Logger) that may run in the background or in the foreground if you wish to keep an eye on it. It only requires the existence of the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework or newer (even if the latter is not installed on your PC, you will be prompted to download it during the installation process of AIS Logger)
Alternatively, you may use one of the following programs:
- NMEA router
- Ship Plotter (requires registration fees)
- AIS Dispatcher
