Voyage Planner [beta]

The MarineTraffic Voyage Planner is a novel tool for sea route distance calculation.

What sets this tool apart is the fact that the displayed routes are based on actual voyage data recorded by MarineTraffic, as opposed to algorithmic routing that does not respect maritime traffic restrictions, such as Traffic Separation Schemes (TSS), safe waterways, turning points, zones of special interest etc.

The Voyage Planner tool is work-in-progress that will gradually incorporate more data and features. At this stage, the available routing options include:

  • Port to Port (suggested routes between ports)
  • Point to Port (suggested routes from a user-defined point to a port)
  • Vessel to Port (suggested routes from a vessel's current position)
  • Most Frequent Destinations (ideal for finding suggested routes for vessels that have not made their destinations known)

All the displayed routes include waypoints so that you can get voyage information all the way across the respective suggested route. You can also suggest route improvements if you think that any of the proposed routes is sub-optimal. Since the routes are based on actual past voyages, the results are realistic but there may be room for improvements. Please, do not hesitate to share your feedback about the accuracy and the functionality of the tool with us.

ECA (Emission Control Areas) Zones and Density Maps can also be overlaid on the map to provide you with even more detailed information while you can select the Map Type (Simple, Terrain, Satellite, OpenStreetMaps, Nautical) that better suits your needs.

Access the Voyage Planner tool and start getting information about the most travelled sea routes (including alternatives) based on real recorded data - plan with accuracy and decide efficiently!
