Free app vs starter plan

I received an email telling me I am about to be charged to renew my subscription at about $10 and I'd like to understand what the differences are between the free app and the starter plan. I live on a sailboat and I like to look in the app every once in a while to see if it has me at the correct location. I don't use the app for anything else at this time, so sell me on why I should pay the $10 to renew my subscription please.
