What are the available ship types to filter from?
For API service PS06, these are filter types that are listed to filter by
- 2: Fishing
- 4: High Speed Craft
- 6: Passenger
- 7: Cargo
- 8: Tanker
but I can filter by other types not on this list. When referring to this ship type article: https://help.marinetraffic.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019025137-What-is-the-significance-of-the-MarineTraffic-Ship-Types- I try to filter on ship types that are in this list but they do not return any results desite being able to also find these ships through the marinetraffic.com app

Hello Corey,
Thank you for your post.
I would like to clarify that the ship type categorisation, for API service PS06, is available in the article below:
https://help.marinetraffic.com/hc/en-us/articles/205579997-What-is-the-significance-of-the-AIS-Shiptype-number-Please try use your API, using one of the above ship types, and let me know if you still face any inconsistency.
I will be glad to further assist.
Kind regards,

For my most recent try on the API service, I used category 3 and received 1000+ results, then tried with category 5 and received an empty array (0 results)... This sounds incorrect that these are named the same thing but produce different results. Are there an additional information on the two categories. Also when using category 59 (special craft) I also received an empty array (0 results) but can verify through the live map that there a multiple from each sub category under the special craft category.

Hello again Corey,
Thank you for your posts.
I would like to clarify that there is a limitation and the only categories that can be used, for PS06 API service, are the following:
- 2: Fishing
- 3: Tug
- 4: High Speed Craft
- 6: Passenger
- 7: Cargo
- 8: Tanker
I hope you can now properly use our service.
I remain at your disposal,

@Vasiliki thank you for the update, there seems to be a miscommunication between what's filterable based on the article you provided and the available options to filter from based on your latest response.
These types
1 = Reserved
2 = Wing In Ground
3 = Special Category
4 = High-Speed Craft
5 = Special Category
6 = Passenger
7 = Cargo
8 = Tanker
9 = Otherdo not appear to align with these:
2: Fishing
3: Tug
4: High Speed Craft
6: Passenger
7: Cargo
8: Tankerwhich I believe was the source of my confusion... Is there any plan for MarineTraffic to allow ship filtering on more types than just the 2-8 mentioned above?? Reason I ask is because these types barely encompass all the available ship types that exist (131)..

Hello again,
Thank you for your posts.
I would like to clarify that, in regards to our API service, the vessel types, that can be used are the ones, I provided previously:
- 2: Fishing
- 3: Tug
- 4: High Speed Craft
- 6: Passenger
- 7: Cargo
- 8: Tanker
The rest of the vessel types are the ones, that are used from the vessel's crew, and are transmitted through the vessel's AIS transponder, to report the actual vessel type to MarineTraffic.
I am really sorry for the confusion the articles created to you.
Please keep in mind that only the above vessel types are available for API calls.
Can you please clarify which exact vessel type are you looking for calling through our API?
At your disposal,

Hi again, thank you for your explanation and patience. I understand, and as an fyi I am able to filter on types 1,5,9 which are not included in this list. Not sure if this is intended or not. I am trying to filter on the vessel type #59 - Special Craft. Would it be possible to filter on this type in the future?

Hello Corey,
Thank you for your post and I am sorry for the delay in my response.
We were monitoring your case internally and what has been found is, that you get results, using 1,5 and 9 vessel types.
Rest assured that we will update the API documentation shortly.Further to that, considering the special craft, using the #59 type, it is not available, at the moment.
However, we consider having a new version, in the future, including more vessel type codes.
I hope you will be able to get the desired results, with the current available parameters.
I remain at your disposal for any further help.
Kind regards,
