    Hello Jackie,

    Thank you for your post.

Allow me to mention that the most recent upload is on top of the Photo Gallery.

Based on the first 6 photos, they were taken on 2017 however, it was just uploaded on 2024-04-19.

    Here's a screenshot for reference:

I hope the above clarifies your query.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Rey

You miss my main point. I understood the old photos were there because they were most recently uploaded. But they do not represent what the current ship looks like. And it seems many people are now uploading old photos so this may happen with many other vessels.

My main point was this: why not order pictures by date they were taken rather than date they are uploaded? In other words, why shouldn't the most recent pictures display first. This is normally what happens unless someone downloads old pictures.

When I look at pictures of ships, I would prefer to see pictures of what it looks like today and not what it looked like 10 years ago.

I am seeing the same thing happening over and over. I don't know why so many old pictures are all of a sudden being uploaded but it is a widespread occurrence. I just came from the ship ONE Maxim and the top pictures are old pictures when the ship had a differebnt name and different color scheme.

    Hello Jackie,

Thanks for getting back to me regarding this matter.

Each vessel has her own history and photos are part of it. Moreover, the date the photo was taken is displayed prominently to avoid confusion.

I would like to encourage you again to upload as many up-to-date pictures so that it will display on the recent uploads.

    Regards,

    Hello Jackie,

I assume, that this is casued by the fact that the "Fleetmon" picture database (another Kepler product which is now merged into MT) is transferred into MT. And the import-procedure is not smart enough to keep the original upload date and replaces it with the import date ...

Together with the not optimal picture presenting structure:

    • Sorted by upload date instead of date taken
    • Date taken NO option for sorting
    • No option to decide between ascending and descending sort
    • No filter options for basic facts (like flag, etc.) on the general search result list (please have a look to vesselfinder.com - this site is in various topics not recommendable BUT their programming team knows how to handle a database and related requests ...)

Long story short: Unfortunately we have to accept the actual messed-up picture data base. Good news is, that they have already started to import November 2022 - in two days latest all pictures should have been imported ...

Just my POV as a user ...

    Best regards

    Jens

    Jens,

Thank you. Your POV as a user explains more and is more sensible than the essentially non-answers I have been given. I agree that it would be very helpful to be able to sort/filter the ship's photo gallery by viewer criteria.

I really wish they had sorted the Fleetmon photos by original upload date instead of the current upload date. That is a terrible oversight in my opinion. Even the decision to use upload date rather than date picture was taken is a bad decision in my opinion. I wonder if it is done simply because it allows a new record to simply be added rather than necessitating a re-sort of all the pictures? In other words, convenience for the database rather than the viewer.

Again, thank you for the information. I had given up on getting a sensible reply.

Just a thought - I wonder if they moderated all the imported photos to make sure they met current marinetraffic.com standards or if they just batch uploaded with no moderation? Lots of questions actually. Were the Fleetmon people told of the migration and gave consent? Was consent not needed because Kpler has the rights to displaying both databases? Wouldn't it be a shock to receive a notification your 2015 photo doesn't meet current standards and is being deleted!

Aha! Just went to the Fleetmon site and I see the closure/migration message. So goodbye Fleetmon and hello batch migration to marinetraffic.com. Why didn't the reps just explain this to me in the beginning? I don't follow Fleetmon so I had no idea why this max influx was occurring...

    Again, thanks Jens...

    Hello Jackie,

thank you very much for your feedback.

I learned about the fleetmon import only due to the fact that a friend who was active only there mentioned it to me.

No idea regarding moderation of the imported pictures. I assume, that there was a moderation as well on fleetmon.

BUT: At least the double picture rule is not apllied correctly - I have seen at least one imported picture which is the same as already uploaded by the same user in MT. Will it be deleted later? Don't know ...
The whole tranfer process is in my POV ill-conceived.
