Agree. The new changes seem to be a step backwards. I've used the website and APP for a while now to track my fleet (14 vessels) and the new basic plan suddenly limits you to 5 vessels and 30 notifications per month. I think i'll soon be hunting for the info elsewhere.

Already found one John Paul Marshall! I have used this app for years, contributing both pictures and using my phone as an AIS when we are out of AIS range. And now instead of a very useful free service, it gets jacked up to $120 USD per month? MarineTraffic...you have lost your minds! I wouldn't mind paying $20 one time fee for the app. But $120 per month! No way! Am now using VesselFinder. I liked your app better. So let me know if you guys get your sanity back...

Agree. 5 vessels and 30 notifications makes this uselss. And I am certainly not paying bucks per month. What have these guys smoked? It is offending to their long-term supporters, and I find it outrageous.

Please understand that this was a necessary move to safeguard the well-being of the service. Fleet management required a lot of resources and we needed more servers to support this.

We have started rewarding our contributors with free plans - and will be trying to give out as much as possible in the future. We just need to do this in a controlled way to make sure we can keep adding new features and improving the service as a whole.

Hi Demitris. I kind of understand your point but i still think that to take functionality away from the end user and force them to pay for it is very unethical. Would it not have been more appropriate to leave the free service as it was and add new functionality at a cost that may tempt people into a subscription. I hope you understand that thanks to this you will not have the same  loyal users around in the future to witness the "improvement to the service as a whole" that you hope to perform. It's a shame and i don't think that you're looking at the bigger picture that people will not hang around for, or even consider paying for the new improved features, when they can get another APP for free (albeit perhaps not quite as good as this one WAS). I honestly think you'll lose a large? number of users over these new limitations.

    Hi Demitris!

I have to join the above users and there opinion! And even worse: It is not only that you are takeing away functionality from the free subscription. The new marinetraffice was rolled out in such poor quality, that even paying users will get less than the free user did with the old site. Just to name some examples of the deficiencies of the new site:

The site is a lot slower than it used to be.

Panning and zooming in a map is very corse, probably linked to the above problem.

When choosing to stay logged in, the my fleet section is not available when comming bacjk to the site, so one will have to log out and back in again by typing both username and password everytime.

Alltogether really dissappointing. If I don't see a change I will have to give other free sites like Vesselfinder a serious try.

Totally agree with the sentiments above.

I use the site as a hobby, to keep track of where the cruise ships are!

Absolutely no way I can justify monthly subscriptions... and 5 ships is useless...

What a way to ruin a great site and service!

Generally, these sort of sites have ad's and sponsorship - I would not have a problem with an ad supported site...

Shame - was perfect until the recent changes :(

Well that's my trial period over so unfortunately it's a case of APP un-installed and bookmarks deleted. SUCH a shame but sure i'll find the info somewhere else.

I've never taken the time to reply to a post on issues, I just move on with the tides, but I feel this is a good time to start my first reply. First off, Demitris, I thank you for being a part of an handy app. I work as a guy operator and I use the app on a daily basis. We have chart plotters and AIS systems on all of our boats. It a very nice tool to have. But I'm not always in the wheelhouse, that's why the marine app is extremely handy to have. I track 13 tugs (in my favorites) and nearly 1000 ships yearly. I find it very aggravating because I'm now limited to only 5 in my favorites. It's a minor hassle to jockey which tugs I want as being "ON". One of the reasons I paid for this app was because I wanted to have a favorites list to pull up and push one button and show where the tug is. And that was great until things changed. I feel somewhat ripped off being limited to 5 tugs. I understand there's cost in maintaining an app like this but I feel that the people who payed for this app before the limited 5 favorites version should've been grandfathered in and passed the cost onto the new customers.

    Correction from previous post:

I work as a tug operator......not "guy" operator....that was awkward. Hehe
