Error Uploading Photos

    Hi Graham,

I occasionally run into the same (misleading) error if I attempt to upload a photo that is greater than the maximum file size allowed of 8 MB.  See the attached file with the error message.

It is possible that your PENTAX K-5 II 16-Megapixel camera may occasionally save photos this large even in JPG format depending on the complexity of the photo.  It looks like you normally crop your photos so the file size would normally get reduced below this limit.  I regularly shoot in 4x3 format and then resize to fit the situation to a standard 4x6 or 16x9 ratio format.

Just take a look at the photos that you have this upload problem with and and check the file size.  You can reduce the size under 8 MB by additional cropping or possibly reduce the size by resizing to a lower resolution.  If you do additional editing of your photos before uploading you may also find that the saved file is larger than the original (due to less compression) and this can be another factor in larger JPG files.

I know you mention that after failing repeatedly with the same error that it will sometimes then work.  I have experienced this on occasion and I presume this to be server overload but I would say this is a problem less and less.  By far it sounds like your problem is related to the 8 MB file size limit.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Malcolm,

I'm usually pretty good at making sure the image size is well below 8MB. As you see I usually always crop the image and save as a smaller file size but I may have missed this on occasion.

The attachment you posted is exactly the same message that I get. I suspect it's more a server issue than something i'm doing but I'll keep an eye on what i'm doing in future and hopefully this will resolve things!

    Thanks for your reply

I have exactly the same problem. I have tried to upload a photo several times over a time span of three weeks. No matter how big or small file I'm trying to upload.

    Hi Mikko,

So far it doesn't look like you have uploaded any photos.  What browser and Operating System are you using?  Have you tried using a different browser or different computer?
