Why is it impossible to upload photos of a NEW Vessel?
AnsweredSince the last system update, the photo uploading interface no longer allows to upload photos of a vessel that is not already listed on MarineTraffic. You have to select the vessel's name from the list (which means that you can't enter the name of a vessel that is not listed yet).
Will this be fixed or is it MarineTraffic's intention to no longer enable the upload of photos of new vessels?

Hi Roni,
To ease the upload process for our users and to ensure that each photo corresponds to a specific vessel and not just hanging around, it is necessary to connect in the upload process your photograph with the vessel.
So once we list the new vessel you can add a photograph for it.

There is a lot of vessels with wrong names, bad MMSI. Sometimes, they are duplicated… Cf. Warship have wrong namesSo, it is not so easy :
For example, if I want to add a photo of a vessel with a bad name (i.e. NATO WARSHIP), I must:- Open the Upload a photo page
Don't change de name, MMSI or type.
Must select a location (even if I don't know it). If I don't take care, MT use my home location ;) - Go to My Account
- Go to Photos Uploaded
- Click on the "Edit Photo" button to change the appropriates fields

How to add a new vessel that is not in the list?
Especially wrecks or boats that don't send (yet) AIS signals or that are not in range of a ground station ? - Open the Upload a photo page

Hello Yves,
You can easily upload a photo for a vessel existing in our database here:
https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/photos/upload
Further to that let me clarify that photos are linked to specific vessel records.
If there is no record for a vessel then photos cannot be uploaded.
I hope this helps. I remain at your disposal.
