    Hello Melody,
"Destination" provided in our website is a field that we receive from ais signals and it gets completed by the vessel's captain.
There are some occasions that captains do not update the destination and unfortunately this is something we cannot control.

Thank you for the answer, but I'm wondering how that can be, since Germany has never been one of their destinations-they only fish in the waters around Alaska. Thanks again.

A fair number of vessels in the English Channel heading for St Peter Port, Guernsey are showing their Destination as ILOVIK[HR]. When they get close to the Port the Destination changes to the correct destination. This is not limited to any particular shipping line.

Further to my previous submission about incorrect Destination re St Peter Port when looking at other sites such as Boat Watch the vessels are showing the correct Destination.

IF so, how is it done--on-board?

Our vessel, Spirit of Bermuda was in Philadelphia in May 2018 and it still shows that as the destination. Im concerned the captain does not know how to change this.

    Dear Lauren,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

The destination is contained in the AIS transponder settings and we receive it according to the transmissions sent.
However, not all transponders contain a destination field. All transponders come in different makes and models, with different details, but Class B transponders in particular contain much less details than Class A.

With that said, it is possible that the transponder has not been updated, or that the destination is an older one that was transmitted through self-report and has thus remained in our system.

In order to check this, you will need to check the transponder settings. If you don't know how to do that, you can check the transponder manual, or contact the installer or manufacturer.
If you determine that there is a field, you can learn how to update it. In the event that there isn't, though, please let me know so that we can proceed with removing it from your vessel's record.

I hope this helps, but please feel free to reach out for anything else.
I will be glad to assist.

    Kind regards,

    Hello Lauren,

Thank you for contacting MarineTraffic Support.

Kindly allow me to share that you should be able to remove the destination port using the OnCourse app.

If you have not downloaded it yet, please feel free to download it here:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marinetraffic.iais&hl=en

Once downloaded, kindly turn off the vessel AIS transponder and use th oncourse app to send new information for the vessel and leave the destination field blank.

Please also take a look at this article to help you further with this:

    https://help.marinetraffic.com/hc/en-us/articles/224265348-Get-Started

I hope this helps and if there is anything else I can further help you with, please do not hesitate to let me know and I will be more than happy to help you.

    Kind regards,
