    Hello all,

    Thank you for your posts.

First and foremost, I would like to kindly thank Marc for his contribution and for the information he has provided.

Further to that, Darren please let me explain that in order for your vessel record to be updated, we need to constantly receive a number of static messages and positions for her.

Please make sure that the AIS transponder of the vessel is turned on and fully functional, and monitor the vessel record, in order to see if the vessel's position will be updated the following days.

I remain at your disposal for any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

Thanks Marc. That position is from last year when I was self reporting. I installed a new AIS transponder yesterday and it is currently pinging away, but not showing up on marinetraffic. I was wondering if the people at marinetraffic had to "accept" a new AIS signal coming in before it went live on their system. Best of luck in the Straits.

    Cheers

    Darren

Thanks Vasiliki, the unit is fully functional and has been transmitting for the past 36 hours. It is an EmTrac 360 which I found on the Marine Traffic site. When it is plugged in via USB to my computer running Proais2 I see that it is receiving and transmitting data. The green light on the unit is on, and it is reporting other vessels via WiFi to my Ipad running Navionics. As far as I can see all is well on my end, are you able to check my MMSI number and see if you are receiving a transmission? Thanks for your help.

    Best regards

    Darren

    Dear Darren,

Following up on our last communication, I would like to inform you that after an investigation, our competent team has found no position received for LAZY KINGFISHER, with MMSI: 235012705.

Could you please make sure that all vessel details are sent through her AIS transponder?

Further to that, I would also suggest you consider our OnCourse self-reporting app and E-mails with positions' reports, as well, in order for you to reinforce her transmission.

You can find more information here:
    https://help.marinetraffic.com/hc/en-us/articles/205327337-Which-are-the-different-ways-of-reporting-my-own-position-

I hope that, if there is anything else I can do for you, you won't hesitate to let me know.

    Kind regards,

    Dear Frans

Thank you for contacting us and for bringing this to our attention.
I will be glad to assist you.

Please allow me to explain that, as you may know, MarineTraffic relies on the AIS protocol in order to receive and provide vessel related info. Based on this, in order for data such as vessel name to change in the MarineTraffic database,
some one from the crew will need to update the transponder's settings with the new details.

When the information has been updated in the AIS transponder of the vessel, as soon as our antennae collect
the necessary amount of both static signals and positions from the vessel, the new other details will be automatically updated in the vessel's detail page.

Please note that the vessel needs to be located in an area under our Terrestrial AIS coverage.
There is a chance that the vessel is not located close to one of the MarineTraffic terrestrial stations,
therefore we cannot receive the vessel's signal with the new details.
You may check the terrestrial coverage in the link below:
    https://help.marinetraffic.com/hc/en-us/articles/205283547-Display-AIS-receiving-Stations-on-the-Live-Map

Once we have received the desired amount of positions and signals from your vessel, please rest assured that the
    record will automatically be updated.

I hope the above information helps clarify things.
Should you need anything further, please feel free to reach out.

    Kind Regards.

I understand... the sailboat in question is moored in Malmö Sweden. If it’s out of reach from a terrestrial traffic station, why is the position constantly updated.. The vessel AIS is transmitting the new name as other track systems like VesselFinder and ShipTracking are showing the correct vessel name RAN II instead of the old name Joyette..

    Dear Frans

Thank you for your reply and for providing me with these details.

Kindly note that upon checking, I can see that the vessel has not moved in a while.
This means that though we are receiving static signals from it, as you noticed,
we have not received any positions.

As I am unable to account for other platforms and how the update or manage vessel details, I can only assure you that as soon as we have received the necessary number of both static signals and positions from the vessel, the name will be updated automatically by our system.

Should you need anything further, please feel free to reach out.
I will be more than happy to assist you.

    Kind Regards,

Dear Cristiana, the vessel name change of MMSI 265781780 from Joyette to RAN II did took place today as the vessel left Malmö for a trip North..The vessel data shows RAN II, but the map plot shows RAN Ii apparently the last character shows lower case i instead of I...a computer input glitch..? Thanks again for your attention and feedback..

    Dear Frans,

    Thank you for your post.

Please let me explain that this is an expected behavior of the system which on our Live Map displays the first letter of each word in majuscule and the rest in minuscules.
Please feel free to verify this by having a look at other names in the same view.

I hope this helps clarifying the case.

Should you need anything further, please feel free to let us know.
We will be happy to assist you.
