    Dear Steve,

    Thank you for your post!

Kindly be advised that, MarineTraffic relies on the AIS protocol to receive and provide vessel related info and positions to our users. This means that in order to change the vessel's name (among other values), you will need to update the vessel's transponder settings with the new details.

Afterwards, since we need to receive both static signals and positions from the vessel, the transponder will need to be kept active for a couple of days, so as for it to be transmitting the signals.

Please rest assured that, as soon as our antennae collect the necessary amount of signals and positions, the new name and any other details will be automatically updated in our database.

Kindly note that the vessel will need to be located in an area within our Terrestrial AIS coverage.
(You can check our coverage with these instructions:
    https://help.marinetraffic.com/hc/en-us/articles/205283547-Display-AIS-receiving-Stations-on-the-Live-Map)

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will be happy to assist you.

    Kind regards,
